Background: At the beginning of this semester I was staying the night at Lori's house. The rule there is to leave your car keys on the table by the front door so if you are ever parked behind anyone they can just move your car, sadly, I drive a manual and no one else in the house did so I would usually have to stop whatever I was doing and move my car for them. Well one day 6 AM rolled around and there was a knock on Lori's door; it was her roommate.
Roommate: "umm ...hmm.. *throat clear* Kayde, umm... I was trying to get into your car, because I learned how to drive a stick shift so I can move it now and well... your key broke in half.
Me: (groggily) O yeah thats fine it happens all the time. (more awake now) wait.. broke my key in half? no actually hmm... that never happens.
Luckily I had a spare key at my house and was able to get that and use it in my car and life has been grand since. Unluckily, I haven't had time to get make a spare or when I do... I forget I need to make a spare. Thus starts my day.
My day did not actually start with these keys my day started with me washing my car. I am moving home tomorrow and want my car to look in tip top shape so I decided to hand wash it to make it look even better. I spent a few long grueling hours slaving over my car. By the end it was beautiful and clean and maroon again how great, right?
Wrong, Logan has this awful weather problem...sort of like a disease that is ugly and you cant control. Called mud rain. Yes, it rains mud all over newly washed cars making them...muddy. Well it mud rained today an hour after I washed my car. Now my car sits in the driveway covered in mud and dirty.
Now the real story starts. My friend Josie is leaving for her mission soon and her farewell party was today but I had to go buy oil for my car before going to her party. After I got oil I ran home to grab her card and gift. I got in the house grabbed the gift and go to run back out and couldn't find my keys. I walked around the house and my room for 20 minutes trying to guess all the places I would have put the keys as I ran into the house. They were in none of these places.
I thought to myself, oh I probably just left them in the car as I ran in no big deal I will grab them and go. I run out to my car get to the door, and as you have probably already guessed the good old door was locked. There sat my keys on the passenger side just staring up at me. Glass is such a horrible invention I could stare at my keys almost touch them. All that held me back was a closed door.
As a poor starving college student paying someone to get my keys out of my car was not top on my list of things to do. So I decided on an alternative. Asking my friend Jeff, he is a professional when it comes to cars and is always so willing to help me; he had just gone to the store with me to fix my oil and teach me how to fix my oil correctly as well. I owe this man a lot! So I called Jeff.
Me: "Oh Hey Jeff, hypothetically speaking what is the best way to get keys out of a car that is locked and the keys are inside...oh and there is no spare, and you don't want to call AAA."
Jeff: Kayde*chuckles*, what did you do?
Me: "I locked my keys in my car haha...funny right?"
Jeff: "I am already on my way to Provo, want me to come back and try to help?"
Me: (see way to nice) "No, no, no you go to Provo but just tell me what to do from the phone."
Jeff: "Well you can try a coat hanger I did it with my car once broke it but it got it unlocked."
Thus begins my life as a criminal. I ran inside got a coat hanger unfolded it and begin doing grand theft auto on my own car. Now, this was not an easy task. First of all I am currently at my grandparents house until I move home tomorrow morning and they had told me to get a spare key or something like this would happen. I hate when they are always right. So I did not want them to know I had locked my key in the car so I had to hide behind my car just in-case they looked out the window; or I would never hear the end of it. Second of all I may be from Vegas but I have no idea how to break into a car with a hanger. So I just started shoving the hanger wherever it would fit...in the side of the door, in the window, at the bottom of the door, in the trunk(just in case I could climb through the back and unlock it), and in the key hole. None of these worked and the hanger just ended up breaking. I then decided to move onto the passenger side of my car with my hanger because cars kept slowing down as they drove by and giving me odd looks because I was crouched down trying to break into my own car.
Well as time progressed I decided this just was not going to work; and I should never quit my day job and go into grand theft auto. I decided to text a few friends and see if they new how to break into cars. This did not work either. Welcome to Logan, no one breaks into cars here, if only I had done this in Vegas I would have had better luck. After a few tries I texted my friend Walter. A few minutes later he calls.
Walter: Its called AAA maybe you should just use that.
Me: The point of this search is to not use AAA, it costs money that I don't want to use.
Walter: I have AAA and its free Ill head over in a little bit and we will just do that.
Long story short, Walter saved my life and I learned 2 very valuable life lessons today.
#1: I need a spare key and some lessons about breaking into my own car, because grand theft auto will never be my thing.
#2: When everything is going wrong being mad only makes it worse, all you can do is laugh out how retarded you probably look breaking into you own car. Laughing makes every day better. Do it often.
